The report places a new facility called TeraFab in Grimes County, Texas, and offers almost nothing else. No process node. No wafer capacity. No capex. No timeline. No third-party verification. In a world where every chip announcement is inflated, this one feels different because it is not just vague; it is structurally impossible to check. I have spent the past decade chasing alpha through the digital fog, and my first instinct is to ask: what kind of asset is this narrative trying to be?

Meanwhile Tesla's FSD and Dojo ambitions consume leading-edge accelerators, HBM memory, and advanced packaging. These two worlds cannot be aggregated into a single "global production capacity" without losing almost all meaning. A claim that "demand exceeds global production" is a bit like saying "the world will run out of food" while simultaneously planning a farm for caviar and a fast-food franchise. Both may be true, but not in the same sense.

This is where I start mapping the invisible architecture of value. Based on my years of auditing tech claims — I started by reading Solidity code instead of ICO whitepapers in 2017, and later interviewed fab engineers during the bear market — I have learned to separate engineering substance from demand theater. TeraFab's name tells us more than its vague press release. "Tera" is not "mega" and not "giga." It evokes teraFLOPS, terabytes, terahertz. That is compute-scale language, not wafer-scale language. If Tesla and SpaceX were building a conventional foundry, they would name it with a site identifier, like Fab 25, not TeraFab. Nvidia and AMD can get wafers; the harder part is finding packaging, memory and system-level integration. The first thing to do with a demand claim is to check whether it is measured in wafer starts or in watts. If TeraFab is a giant compute facility, it will consume every watt and every CoWoS package it can secure. The phrase "demand will exceed current and future global production capacity" is not a forecast from a chip buyer. It is a negotiation signal to suppliers: reserve capacity for us, or we will build an alternative around you. The phrase is also a signal to capital markets: prepare for a capex cycle that will look irrational on a spreadsheet and perfectly logical on a conference call.

If TeraFab were an actual foundry project, we would need five to seven years, twenty to forty billion dollars, and a supply of EUV equipment that ASML simply does not produce in enough quantity. If TeraFab is a compute factory, the timeline shortens to roughly eighteen to twenty-four months, but the power requirement jumps to hundreds of megawatts or more. Location in Grimes County, Texas, starts to make sense: land, power, and a porous grid that might, under the right political conditions, be exempted from interconnection queues. Tesla and SpaceX are not disclosing these details because the story is not meant for engineers. It is meant for suppliers, regulators, and allocators of capital. Watch for power interconnection applications, equipment orders, packaging reservations, and hiring of semiconductor veterans. Until those appear, TeraFab is a ghost in the Texas soil — a story waiting for a physical body. I have hunted ghosts in the blockchain ledger before. Some of them were real; most of them were just well-funded ideas. This one, at least, is a fascinating idea.
